Prenatal Labor Preparation Massage Therapy is a gentle and non-invasive way to prepare your mind and body for labor and birth. It is an alternative for women seeking natural ways to encourage labor especially if they are afraid of acupuncture. Studies show that a massage can raise your body’s level of oxytocin, that hormone that can bring on labor contractions. This type of massage consists of many integrative therapies that promote labor:

  • Reflexology
  • Microcurrent induction point therapy
  • Specific prenatal massage techniques at the sacral, gluteus, psoas, and hip flexors to loosen ligaments and muscles surrounding the tailbone and groin area. (Maya Massage)
  • Acupressure Point Therapy
  • Aromatherapy

You should not consider a labor preparation massage until you have reached the full-term level of your pregnancy. If you’ve reached Full-Term, a labor preparation massage can aid in the natural transition into labor.

Prenatal labor preparation massages can often be effective within 24-72 hours but sometimes two sessions are necessary. It is important to note that there is no “eject” button and this technique will only work if both the baby and the mother are ready.
